the words came haltingly, between harsh intakes of air.
"you... you ... you're going to be sorry!" I shouted, hopelessly.
In moments of high emotion, I felt like a backed up sewer pipe or a clogged up toilet.
All of my feelings stuck at the entrance to my brain. The feelings were there, overcoming me.. making it impossible to verbalize them all in a rational order.
he laughed at my lack of verbal skills.
Inwardly, I seethed.. what right did he have to laugh at me. I had spent the better part of the last 2 years washing his clothes, darning his socks, and raising his children. I suppose that when his children reached a point where they could look after themselves and him too, he didn't need me anymore. That's when Heidi arrived.
With her pink cheeks, blonde braids and swiss accent, I knew that my time with the Baron would soon come to an end. However, I would not go willingly. And when I did go... I would not be going alone.

Edna and the tooth fairies
Edna had a loose tooth. It was loose, but it would NOT come out.
Edna pulled.
She wiggled.
She poked and prodded.
Edna pulled, wiggled, poked and prodded. But her tooth would not come out.
One morning, Edna's mother gave her a big red apple.
"Here, eat this crunchy apple." Mama said, "That will certainly make that tooth fall out."
Edna chewed.
She crunched.
She bit.
Edna chewed, crunched and bit. But her tooth would not come out.
Edna's father gave her a BIG piece of chewing gum. The pink kind that you can blow big bubbles with.
"Here, chew this big piece of gum," Papa said, "That will surely make that tooth fall out."
Edna chewed.
She chewed and chewed.
She blew a great big pink bubble.
Edna chewed and chewed and blew a great big pink bubble. But her tooth would not come out.
Uncle Sid gave Edna a big stick of taffy. It was green and smelled of apple.
"Here, pull on this piece of taffy," Uncle Sid said, "That old tooth will come out faster than you can say, 'tooth fairy'".
Edna pulled.
She chewed and pulled.
She chewed until her whole mouth turned green like an apple.
Edna chewed and pulled and her whole mouth turned green like an apple. But STILL her tooth would not come out.
Mama sighed. Papa sighed. Uncle Sid sighed a great big long sigh.
Edna went to bed that night, wiggling and wobbling her tooth.
